How to transform a wall without renovating

How to transform a wall without renovating

Simple ways to make a quick impact in your interior without high costs or unnecessary complications.

Sometimes all it takes is one evening and one wall to give an interior a completely new character. You do not need a renovation crew or scaffolding — just a good idea and a few simple decorative elements.

Start with one wall

The “less is more” rule works perfectly when refreshing an interior. Choose one wall — usually the one behind the sofa, bed or desk — and treat it like a canvas. The rest of the room can remain neutral.

Choose one strong feature

A large canvas print, a framed poster or a wall mural can completely change how a space feels. Choose one distinctive motif instead of several small ones for a more coherent and mature result.

Match the format to the wall

A decoration that is too small can look lost on a large wall. A few simple rules are worth remembering:

  • The main piece should cover about 60–70% of the width of the furniture below it.
  • On an empty wall, aim for about two thirds of its height.
  • The centre of the decoration is best positioned about 150 cm above the floor.

Textiles and lighting

After changing the wall decoration, pay attention to the details: cushion covers, a throw on the sofa or a floor lamp in the corner. These elements create the mood and help the new feature truly work in the room.
